about

Somió is the downtempo avenue of Kieron James' musical expressions.

The album is made available as a pre-release on 22 December 2010 - the birthday of Edgard Varèse, a significant influence in the field of electronic music. Varèse's music places an emphasis on timbre and rhythm. He coined the term "organised sound", suggesting that certain timbres and rhythms can be grouped together to create a new definition of music. Although Varèse's complete surviving works last just three hours, his impact on several major composers of the late 20th century is evident. His use of new instruments and electronic resources led to his being known as the "Father of Electronic Music" and Henry Miller described him as "the stratospheric Colossus of Sound."

Kieron's interest in percussive sounds - and their significance to the overall composition - results from his musical apprenticeship as a drummer in a number of bands, the most successful being The Emotionals. The band kicked off a craze on London's underground using handmade stickers to promote gigs at the George Robey, Borderline and Marquee clubs. They released two albums with Native Records, (the home of Nine Inch Nails at the time), Personal Pleasure and In Response.

Several tracks on the album were inspired by frequent visits to Northern Spain over the last twenty years, with a good deal of time spent in the idyllic Picos de Europa. As well as the artist moniker Somió, San Feliz and Deva lend their names to two compositions from Organised Sound - the latter being the village where Kieron and his wife married.
